Yahoo Finance’s survey finds Meta as the worst company of the year
Every year Yahoo Finance ask its audience to vote the best and worst company of the year based on the market performance and achievement.
For the year 2021, the company surveyed 1,541 respondents and of those who participated voted Microsoft as the best company. Meta previously known as Facebook was crowned the worst company of the year. Meta received 50 percent more vote than Alibaba, which took second place in the voting of the worst company, according to the survey.
We could say 2021 was the worst year for Meta for it was dragged into series of controversies one after another. The company was accused of spreading hate speech and misinformation. Others argued that the platform censored much information, silencing the voice of the minority and dissidents.
Instagram, the photo sharing app owned by Meta, caused havoc in the mental well being of teenager, especially girls. Heavy use of Instagram, among teenagers, was directly linked to depression, anxiety and body image issues, triggering suicidal thoughts.
However, 30 percent of the respondents viewed that the company can save itself from the damages. Respondents suggested Meta could make up by donating the large portion of the profits or growing its stock price to please the angry investor, survey reported.
